Name an indicator that is red in acidic solution and becomes blue when some base is added to it.

Indicators are any substance that is added to the reaction mixture to indicate the equivalent point of the titration.

For example;

Phenolphthalein, litmus, methyl yellow etc.

  1. In a neutral medium, litmus shows no change in colour.
  2. When litmus is added to the acidic medium, it turns into red colour.
  3. When litmus is added to the basic medium, it turns into blue colour.

Therefore, the indicator which turns red in acidic solution and blue in the basic medium is litmus.
