Some of the physical factors that led to establishment of industries are:

• During colonial times, industries were developed in places like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata. This was done keeping in mind the flexibility to carry out overseas trade.
• Availability of raw materials is another important factor for establishment of industries. For example thermal power plants are established near coal mines, nuclear power plants are located in coastal areas as there is a need for water while generating electricity.
• Availability of labour is another important factor for establishment of industries.
• Availability of market, transportation, and other availability of other services like banks etc.
• Industries are usually located near cities, so that they can find a big market for their produce.
