Solution

Dear Student,

Copper releasing intrauterine devices function by releasing copper ions which suppress sperm motility and the capacity of sperms to fertilize. For instance, Copper T, a simple copper releasing intra-uterine device (IUD) made of a flexible, "T" shaped piece of plastic wrapped with a thin copper containing wire. It consists of a flexible cross arm, a vertical arm and two threads or strings. The copper wire is wound on the two arms that releases copper ions which suppresses sperm motility and the capacity of the sperms to fertilize. In this way, it prevents pregnancy.

Some other Cu releasing intrauterine devices are- Cu-7, Multiload 375.
