The trophic level represents the position of the organism in the food chain.

Some organisms can occupy more than two trophic levels For Example:- Humans and sparrows
  • Humans who are vegetarians depend only on plants, hence belong to trophic level 2 (primary consumer) and those who are nonvegetarians belong to trophic level 3(secondary consumer)
  • Sparrows can feed only on the seeds then it belongs to trophic level 2 (primary consumer) and if it consumes insects it belongs to trophic level 3(secondary consumer).
