Question

Name different states of matter.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Anything which has mass and occupies space is called matter.
  2. Matter is composed of smaller units called molecules and atoms.
  3. Solids, liquids and gases are the different states of matter.

Solids:

  1. Particles are closely packed.
  2. The interaction between the particles are high in solids.
  3. So there are minimum inter molecular space between the particles.

Liquids:

  1. In liquids molecules are loosely packed.
  2. The interaction between the particles are less in liquids than solids.
  3. The inter molecular space is more than liquids as compared to solids.

Gases:

  1. In gases molecules are loosely packed.
  2. The inter atomic distance between the particle is maximum in gases.
  3. The interaction between the molecules is minimum in gases.

Hence, solids, liquids and gases are the three different states of matter.
