Solution

Dear student,
There are six major classes of enzymes in our body.
Name of the enzyme class Functions and characteristics
Ligase Binding of nucleotides together in nucleic acids,
Binds simple sugars in polysaccharides.
Lyase Breaks the bonds between carbon atoms or carbon nitrogen bond.
Hydrolase Hydrolysis or breaking of large molecule into small molecules by the addition of water molecule.
Transferase Transfer of a part of one molecule to another molecule.
Isomerase Formation of isomers: the atoms in a molecule are rearranged without changing their chemical formula.
Oxidoreductase Removes hydrogen from one molecule and donates it to another molecule. Involved in mitochondrial energy production
Kinase Addition of a phosphate group to a high energy bond. Involved in ATP production
