There are seven main characteristics of living things: movement, nutrition, respiration, excretion, growth, sensitivity and reproduction. Some non-living things may show one or two of these characteristics like movement, whereas, living things show all seven characteristics. For example, cars/buses move but they are non-living things. Snow formation looks like the hillside is growing with snow fall, but that is because of the accumulation of snow and not due to any biological processes as snow is also a nonliving component.
