Mitosis: It is a process of the cell cycle in which a single cell divides, to produce two identical daughter cells.

Meiosis:

  1. It is a process in which a single cell divides twice to produce four cells containing half the original amount of chromosomes.
  2. There are two stages in meiosis: Meiosis-I and Meiosis-II.

Stages in mitosis and meiosis-

  1. Prophase: It is a phase in which chromatin condenses making the chromosomes visible
  2. Metaphase: It is a phase in which chromosomes become aligned at the equatorial plane.
  3. Anaphase: It is a phase in which sister chromatids separate and the resultant daughter chromosomes move towards the pole.
  4. Telophase: It is a phase in which daughter chromosomes reach the poles and form two new nuclei.
