For his experiments, Mendel used the pea plant (Pisum sativum).
When Mendel crossed tall and short plants, he got tall offspring in the Fl generation. The F2 generation produced three tall and one dwarf plant when the Fl plants were used.
Some of the reasons for choosing pea plants are: They possessed bisexual flowers that pollinate themselves, Self-pollination can be prevented and artificially pollinated simply by removing the male part.
