Solution

Ozone:

  • The extremely reactive gas ozone (O3) which is made up of three Oxygen (O) atoms, is an allotrope of Oxygen.
  • Ozone has a strong odour and is blue-black in both solid and liquid form.
  • It is found in both the high (stratosphere) and lower (troposphere) atmospheres of the Earth (the troposphere).
  • Ozone has two qualities that are important to human health.
  • First, it filters UV light, lowering human exposure to UV radiation, which causes skin cancer and cataracts.
  • Second, when breathed, it chemically combines with numerous biological components in the respiratory system, resulting in a number of negative health consequences.

Hence, Ozone is known as ozonised oxygen.
