Open in App
Solution

Intra Uterine Contraceptive Devices (IUDs) are inserted by the doctors or expert nurses in the uterus through the vagina. These devices increase phagocytosis of sperm within the uterus and are presently available as:
  • Non-medicated IUDs: Lippes loop
  • Copper-releasing IUDs: CuT, Cu7, Multiload 375.
The additional use of Cu ions released is to suppress sperm motility and the fertilizing capacity of sperms.
  • Hormone releasing IUDs: Progestasert, LNG-20 (Levonorgestrel).
