Meristematic tissue:

  1. A meristematic tissue is a group of young cells that have the capacity for active cell division.
  2. This tissue is found in all the growing parts of a plant, such as the root tip and shoot tip.

Characteristics of meristematic tissue

  1. They are living cells, compactly packed without intercellular spaces.
  2. The vacuoles are almost absent.
  3. The cells are small, thin-walled, and cuboidal in shape
  4. They have dense granular cytoplasm.
  5. The nucleus is large, prominent, and centrally located
  6. The cells are immature and undifferentiated.
  7. They continue to divide indefinitely adding new forming origin, cells to plant.
  8. They don't store reserved food material.
