Solution
Pituitary:
The pituitary is known as the "master gland" because it coordinates the complicated regulatory actions of numerous other endocrine glands within the brain.
The anterior pituitary gland produces six basic hormones: prolactin (PRL), growth hormone (GH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
Pituitary hormones are pulsatile, suggesting that they have been activated by a range of hypothalamic releasing hormones.
Each of these pituitary hormones has a distinct effect on peripheral target organs.
The hormonal products of those peripheral glands, in turn, regulate pituitary activity via hypothalamic and pituitary feedback control.
