Question

Name some human activities responsible for air pollution?

Open in App
Solution

Air pollution:

  • Human activities related to the industry, the burning of fossil fuels in automobiles and power plants, etc. add undesired components to the natural air, which results in air pollution.
  • Some common air pollutants which pollute the air are gases like, carbon dioxide(CO2), nitrogen dioxide(NO2), carbon monoxide(CO), etc.

The human activities that lead to air pollution:-

Burning of fossil fuels:

  • Sulphur dioxide(SO2) released by the burning of fossil fuels like coal, and petroleum is the major cause of air pollution.
  • Gases emitted from vehicles including trucks, jeeps, cars, trains, and airplanes cause an immense amount of pollution

Agricultural activities:

  • Use of insecticides, pesticides, and fertilizers in agricultural activities releases harmful chemicals into the air and can also cause water pollution

Exhaust from factories and industries:

  • Manufacturing industries release a large amount of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, organic compounds, and chemicals into the air thereby depleting the quality of air.
  • Petroleum refineries release hydrocarbons and various other chemicals that cause air pollution.

Mining operations:

  • Mining is a process wherein minerals below the earth are extracted.
  • During this process dust and chemicals are released into the air causing massive air pollution.
