Acidic oxides are also known as acidic anhydride. When such acidic anhydride dissolves in water they produce acid. The acidic anhydride of sulphurous acid $H_{2} {S O}_{3}$ is sulphur dioxide ${S O}_{2}$

It reacts with water to form sulphurous acid. That is,
${S O}_{2} + H_{2} O \to H_{2} {S O}_{3}$
