Acidic oxides are also known as acidic anhydride. When such acidic anhydride dissolves in water they produce acid. The acidic anhydride of nitric acid $H N O_{3}$ is dinitrogen pentoxide $N_{2} O_{5}$ . It reacts with water to form nitric acid. That is,
$N_{2} O_{5} + H_{2} O \to 2 {H N O}_{3}$
