Question

Name the addition product formed between Ethene and water

Open in App
Solution

  1. Sulphuric acid works well as an oxidizing agent because thermal decomposition of Sulphuric acid gives Nascent oxygen[O].
  2. This Nascent oxygen will further oxidize the compounds.
  3. Addition of water molecules to Ethene is a so-called hydration reaction.
  4. In general when a water molecule is added to an alkene in the presence of an acid such as Sulphuric acid then alcohols are formed.
  5. The chemical reaction occurs between Ethene and water in the presence of Sulphuric acid, which forms Ethanol.
  6. The chemical reaction is as follows: CH2=CH2(g)(Ethene)+H2O(l)H+C2H5OH(l)(Ethanol)
  7. Therefore, the additional product formed between Ethene and water is Ethanol.
