Question

Name the blood vessel that has the lowest concentration of urea.

Solution

Urea:

  1. Urea is the excretory product that is excreted out of the body through the kidney in urine.
  2. The renal artery enters the kidney as an afferent arteriole. It delivers the blood with a high urea level to the glomerulus of the kidney.
  3. The glomerulus filters the blood that enters the Bowman's capsule and runs parallel to the loop of Henle.
  4. Through the process of tubular secretion in the distal convoluted tubule, the loop of Henle, and the collecting duct, the urea is absorbed into the nephric filtrate
  5. The urea is absorbed into the nephric filtrate by tubular secretion in the distal convoluted tubule, the loop of Henle, and the collecting duct.
  6. The process of tubular secretion helps to secrete the urea from the blood to the collecting duct which is finally excreted in form of urine.
  7. The purified blood comes from the kidney through the renal vein, a blood vessel that carries blood from the kidney to the inferior vena cava of the heart.
  8. Since all the urea is excreted in the form of urine during tubular secretion, the renal vein has the lowest concentration of urea.
