Autolysis is the process of destruction of cells or tissues by their own enzymes. It occurs in living cells and in the presence of enzymes which are secreted by lysosomes.

Hence we can say that autolysis process is initiated by the lysosomes that releases the digestive enzymes into cytoplasm to initiate the process of autolysis.
