Removal of metabolic wastes from the body is called excretion.
Principal waste products are nitrogenous substances such as ammonia, urea and uric acid.
These nitrogenous wastes are produced by the breakdown of proteins and amino acids.
Proteins are abundant in organisms and thus the amount of nitrogenous wastes produced by their breakdown is significant.
Breakdown of amino acid produces ammonia as the immediate product but in humans, the liver rapidly converts it into urea which is excreted out of the body.
Thus, urea is the chief excretory product in human beings.
