Refining of petroleum / fractional distillation: The process in which the separation of miscible liquids into different components at different temperatures by the destructive distillation method is known as fractional distillation.

Liquid fuels obtained as a result of refining petroleum / fractional distillation are:

  • Gasoline (petrol) - It is the main source of energy for all types of modern transport vehicles.
  • Kerosene- It is used for burning in kerosene lamps and domestic heaters or furnaces.
  • Diesel- It is used as fuel for heavy vehicles.
  • Gasoline Fuel oil - It is used as industrial fuel for boilers and for producing electricity in plants.
  • Lubricating oil - It is used for lubricating purposes to reduce friction.
