Name the component of blood which transports :
1) Food, carbon dioxide and nitrogenous wastes.
2) Oxygen
1) The component of blood which transports food, carbon dioxide and nitrogenous wastes is called Plasma.
2) The component of blood which transports oxygen is RBC (red blood cells).
Plasma and RBC:
Plasma is the liquid component of the blood that helps in the transportation of various hormones, nutrients, metabolic wastes etc. In addition, they also transport carbon dioxide to a smaller extent. The red blood cells possess the protein called haemoglobin that helps in the binding and transportation of the respiratory gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide throughout the body cells. Approximately 75% of carbon dioxide is transport in the red blood cell and 25% in the plasma. On the other hand, approximately 98% of total oxygen transported in the blood is bound to haemoglobin, while only 2% is dissolved directly in plasma.
