Cropping seasons are the seasons in which a particular crop is grown.

The cropping seasons of India are:

  1. Kharif
  2. Rabi
  3. Zaid

Kharif:

  1. Kharif crops are grown with the onset of monsoon in different parts of the country and these crops are harvested in September-October.
  2. Example: Paddy, maize, jawar, bajra.

Rabi:

  1. They are grown in the month of October or November.
  2. The crops are then harvested in spring. Example: wheat, gram, barley.

Zaid:

  1. Zaid is a short season during the summer months between the rabi and the Kharif seasons.
  2. Important crops produced during ‘zaid’ are watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, vegetables, and fodder crops.
