Open in App
Solution

Technically, wood is secondary xylem formed by vascular cambium during secondary growth.
Xylem cells are like zombies in that they are dead when functional.
The accumulation of wood, results from the continued divisions by the ring of vascular cambium cells just inside the bark. All tissues outside cambium layer including phloem and cork cells is the bark.
