Question

Name the different types of chemical reactions. Explain any two.

Open in App
Solution

Chemical reaction: A chemical reaction is when the bonds are broken within reactant molecules, and new bonds are formed within product molecules to form a new substance.

  • The substances that are present on the left side of a chemical reaction are known as reactants
  • The substances that are present on the right side of a chemical reaction are known as products
  • For example, 2H2(g)Hydrogen+O2(g)Oxygen2H2O(l)Water

Different types of chemical reactions are:

  • Combination reaction
  • Decomposition reaction
  • Displacement reaction
  • Double Displacement reaction
  • Precipitation Reaction

The explanation for any two:

Combination reaction:

  • A reaction in which two or more reactants combine to form a single product is known as a combination reaction.
  • It takes the form of X+YXY
  • For example, 2H2(g)Hydrogen+O2(g)Oxygen2H2O(l)Water

Decomposition Reaction:

  • A reaction in which a single compound breaks into two or more simpler compounds is known as a decomposition reaction.
  • It takes the form of XYX+Y
  • A decomposition reaction is just the opposite of a combination reaction.
  • Example of a decomposition reaction: CaCO3(s)CalciumcarbonateCaO(s)Calciumoxide+CO2(g)Carbondioxide
