Name the different types of polyhedral solids.

Open in App
Solution

A polyhedron is a three-dimensional solid figure that comprises edges, faces, and vertices.

There are many types polyhedrons, which are as follows;

  1. Regular Polyhedrons: A regular polyhedron is one whose faces are congruent with each other. They are of five types:-
  • Tetrahedron: These have four vertices, four faces, and six edges.
  • Cube: These have eight vertices, six faces, and twelve edges.
  • Regular Octahedron: These have six vertices, eight faces, and twelve edges.
  • Regular Dodecahedron: These have twenty vertices, twelve faces, and thirty edges.
  • Regular Icosahedron: These have twelve vertices, twenty faces, and thirty edges.

2. Irregular Polyhedrons: A regular polyhedron is one whose faces are not congruent with each other.

3. Convex Polyhedron: In a Convex Polyhedron a line segment joining any two points on the surface of a polyhedron entirely lies inside the polyhedron.

4.Concave Polyhedron: If a line segment joining any two points on the surface of a polyhedron entirely lies outside the polyhedron.

Hence, different types of polyhedral solids are named above.
