Solution

The electronic configuration: The distribution of electrons in different energy shells of the atom is known as the electronic configuration.

(i) 2, 6 electronic configuration implies that the atomic number is 8 and hence the element is Oxygen(O).

  • Oxygen has 2 electrons in 1st energy level and 6 electrons in 2nd energy level and required 2 electrons to obey an octet rule.

(ii) 2, 7 electronic configuration implies that the atomic number is 9 and hence the element is Fluorine(F).

  • Fluorine has 2 electrons in the 1st energy level and 7 electrons in the 2nd energy level and required 1 electron to obey an octet rule.

(iii) 2, 8,1 electronic configuration implies that the atomic number is 11 and hence the element is Sodium(Na).

  • Sodium has 2 electrons in the 1st energy level,8 electrons in the 2nd energy level, and one electron in the 3rd energy level, and by losing 1 electron to obey an octet rule.

(iv) 2, 8,7 electronic configuration implies that the atomic number is 17 and hence the element is Chlorine(Cl).

  • Chlorine has 2 electrons in the 1st energy level and 8 electrons in the 2nd energy level and 7 electrons in the 3rd energy level and required 1 electron to obey an octet rule.

(v) 2, 8 electronic configuration implies that the atomic number is 10 and hence the element is Neon(Ne).

  • Neon has 2 electrons in the 1st energy level and 8 electrons in the 2nd energy level and No electrons are required to obey an octet rule.
