Question

Name the extreme colors in a pure spectrum of light?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The spectrum of light: Light spectrum is the representation of different wavelengths of energy produced by a light source.
  2. Pure spectrum: A spectrum in which the dispersion is highly discriminative so that at each point the light is practically monochromatic.
  3. A pure spectrum is that in which there is no overlapping of colors.
  4. Here we only consider the visible spectrum which is visible to the human eye as the other wavelengths are not sensitive to the human eyes.
  5. Diagrammatic representation:
  6. The visible spectrum is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to the naked human eye.
  7. There are seven colors in the visible region of light namely violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red.
  8. The above is in the order of increasing wavelength so the extreme colors are violet and red.
  9. Hence, from the description of the spectrum of light, extreme colors are violet and red.
