Question

Name the factors that increase the solubility of a solution.

Solution

Solubility-

  • It is the dissolving capacity of solute in a solvent.
  • When a maximum of solute (in g) dissolve in a given solvent (in ml), at a specific temperature.

Example-

  • Let dissolve 5 g sugar in 100 ml of water.
  • Sugar will completely dissolve in a given amount of water at a specific temperature.
  • If we add more sugar it will not dissolve.
  • It will remain at the bottom of the container.

Factors that increase the solubility of a solution:

  • Stirring-
    • It means the continuous moving of particles.
    • It increases the solubility of a given solution.
  • Temperature- By increasing temperature, solubility increases.
    • Example- In the above case of mixing sugar into the water.
    • If water is going to boil, the remaining settled sugar can dissolve in the water.
  • Size of particles- If the size of particles decreases, the solubility of the substance increase.
