Protozoa are members of kingdom protista. Protozoa are unicellular, eukaryotic, heterotrophic organisms. Based on the locomotory organelles, the phylum protozoa is further classified into five classes namely,

1. Mastigophora - Here, flagella act as locomotory organs. It includes Leishmania, Volvox, Euglena, etc.

2. Sarcodina - Here, pseudopodia act as locomotory organs. It includes Amoeba, Entamoeba, Arcella, etc.

3. Sporozoa - Here, there are no locomotory organs. It includes parasites such as Plasmodium, Monocystis, etc.

4. Ciliata - Here, cilia act as locomotory organs. It includes Paramoecium, Vorticella, etc.

5. Suctoria - Here, adult do not possess any locomotory organs. It includes Ephelota.
