Answer: Citizenship means legal status given to the citizens to live in a country. It is not permanent in nature and can be changed.
There are 4 ways by which citizenship can be acquired-
By birth- If a person born in India, he/she involuntarily acquires the citizenship of India if both parents are Indian and not illegal migrants.
By descent- A person gets the citizenship of India if his/her parents or grandparents have Indian citizenship.
By registration- If a person wants to get citizenship of India, he/she has to stay in India for a period of 7 years before submitting an application to the Government of India applying for a citizenship.
By naturalisation- The Central government grants citizenship to a person on the grounds that the person should not hold citizenship of any country and is of a good character.
By incorporation of Territory- If any foreign country merged with India due to war or voluntarily, the government will specify whom to grant citizenship of India.
