Sunken stomata:

  1. Sunken stomata are stomata that get sink into the epidermis.
  2. An air pocket is formed in which several sunken stomata are present.
  3. These stomata are also surrounded by several hair like structures inside the air pocket.
  4. These air pockets create an environment of still and humid air inside separate from the outer dry and speedy air.
  5. In this way sunken stomata will reduce the loss of water vapor in transpiration.

Nerium :

  1. Nerium is a xerophytic plant.
  2. So, it needs to reduce the loss of water by transpiration.
  3. For that the stomata of the leaves of Nerium get sink into the leaf and get covered with hair inside small air pockets.
  4. The air inside these air pockets is still, so, it reduces the amount of transpiration.
