  1. The small gap which exists between two neurons is called a synapse.
  2. The synapse serves as a site for communication between the two neurons.
  3. The impulses from the axon of one neuron communicate with the dendrites or cell body of another neuron via the synapse.
  4. The axon terminals have vesicles containing neurotransmitters that are released into the synaptic cleft when the impulses reach the axon terminal.
  5. The neurotransmitters transmit chemical signals to the neighboring neuron via the synaptic cleft or synapse.

The point of contact between the two neurons is a synapse.
