Solution

i) When an atom loses an electron, it becomes a positively charged ion called a cation.
ii) When an atom gains an electron, it becomes negatively charged forming an anion.
iii) An electropositive element loses an electron to form a cation. Na is one such element, which forms Na+ cation.
iv) An electronegative element gains an electron to form an anion. Cl is one such element, which forms Cl anion.
