Name the following: (ii) The structure that holds the heart valves in position.

Solution

Solution
  • The cusps of the valves of the heart are held in position by the fibrous cords called ‘chordae tendineae’.
  • The chordae tendineae ensure that the cusps of flaps of the valves do not invert into the atria.
  • Thus, unidirectional flow of blood from the atria to the ventricles is maintained.
