Solution

Lenticels:

  1. A lenticel is a porous tissue comprising cells with huge intercellular spaces.
  2. These can be found in the roots of dicotyledonous flowering plants, the bark of woody stems, periderm of secondarily thickened structures.
  3. These small openings in the bark enable air to reach the remaining parts of the root system.
  4. Lenticles occur in the woody branches of the trees.
  5. They are special openings on the older stem in place of the stomata.
  6. In lenticular transpiration, water from the cell surface facing the lenticels evaporates directly.

Final answer: Openings on the stem through which transpiration occurs are called lenticels.
