Visceral organs

  1. These are the soft organs of the body such as the iris of the eye, ureters, blood vessels, intestine, and the bronchi of the lungs, alimentary canal, stomach, liver, kidneys, lungs, etc.
  2. These muscles which occur in the soft organs of the body are called visceral muscles.

Smooth muscles (nonstriated muscles)

  1. The cells of smooth muscles are unbranched, uninucleated, and long with pointed ends having a spindle shape.
  2. They are also called unstriated muscles because these muscles do not show any bands or stripes.
  3. The involuntary movements such as movement of food in the alimentary canal, dilation of the pupil, and contraction of lungs are controlled by smooth muscles.
