Respiratory system:

  1. The respiratory system is a group of organs that helps in carrying out the process of respiration in an organism.
  2. The main organs of the human respiratory system include the nose, larynx, pharynx, trachea, bronchi and a pair of lungs.

Lungs:

  1. Lungs are the main respiratory organs in humans.
  2. There are a pair of lungs which are spongy and elastic in nature.
  3. Lungs are lobbed structures (left lung is two lobbed and right lung is three lobbed).
  4. Lungs are covered by a two-layered membrane called pleural membrane which is filled with a fluid called pleural fluid.
  5. Lungs are the site for gas exchange.
  6. Pleural fluid helps in the lubrication of the lung which makes the diffusion of gas easier.
