  1. The dicot seed is enclosed in a hard seed coat called testa.
  2. It protects the delicate inner parts of the seed from injury and attack by bacteria, fungi, and insects.
  3. Inside the testa there is another membranous covering called tegmen.
  4. On the concave side, it shows a scar called hilum from where it is attached to the fruit.
