Question

Name the following:

The process in which an atom lose electron

Open in App
Solution

There are generally two types of reaction

Metathesis: The reaction where the oxidation state of atoms in reactant is equal to the oxidation state of atoms in product.

Redox: The reaction in which the oxidation state changes from reactant to product. It can either increase or decrease.

Explanation:

The reaction when the oxidation state increase from reactant to product, is called an oxidation reaction .

The reaction where the oxidation state decrease from reactant to product is called a reduction reaction.

The Oxidation reaction is only possible when there is loss of electron whereas the reduction reaction is only possible when there is gain in electron.

Hence, the process in which an atom lose electron is Oxidation reaction.
