Solution

Heart sounds

  1. Heart sounds are created from blood flowing through the heart chambers as the cardiac valves open and close during the cardiac cycle.
  2. There are two main heart sounds which we can hear by using a stethoscope.
  3. The first heart sound Lubb is a long booming sound, produced by the closure of the tricuspid and bicuspid valves during ventricular systole which prevents back flow of blood to atria from ventricles.
  4. The second heart sound Dupp is a short sharp sound, produced due to the closure of the semilunar valves present at the roots of pulmonary artery and aorta during ventricular diastole which prevents back flow of blood.
