Epidermis:

  1. The outermost layer of the cells covering stem, leaf, root, etc of plants is called epidermis.
  2. It provide protection against mechanical injuries, infection and loss of water.

Cuticle:

  1. It is the waxy layer on the epidermis of the leaves meant to reduce transpiration.
  2. Since, it is made up of waxy substances, it does not permit the removal of water from the leaves and stem.
  3. In this way waxy cuticle reduces the rate of transpiration.
