Question

Name the following:

Weak electrostatic forces between the molecules of polar covalent compounds

Open in App
Solution

Polar compounds:

Polar compounds are the ones where the atoms which are bonded to one another have large electronegativity difference.

Due to this electronegativity difference, the electronegative atom acquires a partial negative charge over it and the less electronegative atom acquires a partial positive charge over it.

Explanation:

A positive entity and a negative entity are attracted towards each other by a electrostatic force, which is called the intermolecular force of attraction in this case.
