Question

Name the following

A bond formed by sharing of electron

Open in App
Solution

A bond is formed between two atoms in three different ways:

  • Either by gaining or losing electron
  • By sharing electrons
  • By donating a pair of electron

Generally, the formation of bond helps the atom to get stabilized by completing its octet.

Answer:

Sharing of electrons is only possible in the atoms where the ionization energy is high and the electron affinity is also not much. So these atoms are neither able to gain electrons nor lose electrons. Hence, they complete their octet by sharing the electrons.

This type of bond is known as Covalent Bond.
