Solution

Covalent molecule :

A covalent molecule is the one which is formed by sharing of electron between atoms.

A polar molecule has two parts :

  • positive part- cation
  • negative part- anion

The cation and anion get separated when dissolved in water only if the molecule is polar that is the bond should be polar.

Answer:

An example of a covalent molecule that forms ions on dissolving in water is HCl.

Hydrogen is less electronegative that Chlorine and the bond between them is formed by sharing of electron pair. Hence, it is a polar covalent molecule.

The ions formed after dissolving in water are- H+andCl-
