  • They are usually green due to the dominance of pigments such as chlorophyll- a, chlorophyll- b and beta- carotene.
  • Most of the members have one or more storage bodies called pyrenoids in the chloroplast.
  • Pyrenoids contains proteins and starch.
  • Some store food in the form of oil droplets.
  • Eg- 1)Chlorella produces food rich in proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.
2) It also yields antibiotic chlorellin.
