Open in App
Solution

  • Pteridophytes are vascular plants which are also known as cryptogams (i.e reproduction is hidden).
  • It reproduces through dispersal of spores as they neither produce flowers nor seeds.
  • They include ferns, horsetails etc.
  • They include four classes:-
1) Psilopsida- are the most primitive vascular plants in which roots are absent and rhizoids occur instead of roots. Leaves may be present or absent.
2) Lycopsida- are vascular plants which show differentiation of roots, stems and leaves. Leaves are microphyllous i.e, they do not produce a leaf gap in the vascular strand of the stem.
3) Sphenopsida- are also known as horsetails. In them, the stems are joined and ribbed with leaves and branches are borne in whorls.
4) Pteropsida- are also called ferns. They are usually perennial in nature and are differentiated into roots, stem and spirally arranged leaves or possess raised leaves.
