Solution
GH is an abbreviation for growth hormone secreted from pituitary gland. It causes an increase in the length of bone and cell growth, proliferation and division to promote the general growth of the body.
Somatostatin is a hormone secreted from the hypothalamus that inhibits secretion of GH. Failure of somatostatin secretion results in oversecretion of growth hormone. This eventually leads to gigantism in children and acromegaly in adults.
