When ethanoic acid (CH3COOH) reacts with sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), sodium ethanoate (or sodium acetate) is formed. Carbon dioxide is also released in the process. Following is the chemical reaction for the equation

CH3COOH + NaHCO3 → CH3COONa + H2O + CO2
