A group of specialized cells or tissue which produces and releases a secretion to perform specific functions is known as a gland. Glands that release hormones are called endocrine glands.

Melatonin hormone and its function:

  1. The melatonin hormone is secreted by a small gland present in the middle of the brain called the pineal gland.
  2. It helps in regulating the sleep cycle, mood, biorhythms, etc.
